Periodic Cleanings & Prevention

A periodic re-care program is a joint effort between you and our dental team established with the goal to help you maintain optimal oral health. Our objective is to help you achieve this by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.

Prevention starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet and continued in office by the efforts of our dental team as they promote, restore, and maintain your oral health. Regular dental care is essential to prevent common problems such as bad breath and discolored teeth.

An effective prevention program is made up of regular dental exams, gum and tissue examinations, cleanings, and X-rays. Prevention can help you avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, and beautiful smile!

Endodontics

Endodontic treatment, a.k.a root canal therapy is the removal of the pulp of the tooth (the nerve, blood vessels, and connective tissue) in order to alleviate pain and arrest the disease process.

This treatment is often needed when the pulp tissue becomes inflamed or infected due to deep decay, multiple dental procedures on the tooth, a crack or chip in the tooth or physical trauma. If pulp inflammation or infection is left untreated, it can cause pain, lead to an abscess or even worse cause permanent discoloration of the tooth.

Signs that a root canal may be needed may include pain, prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold, discoloration, swelling and tenderness of the gum tissue around the tooth.

Pedodontics

Dr. Garcia will promote the dental health of children as well as serve as educational resources for parents. It is recommended that a dental visit should occur within six months after the presence of the first tooth or by a child’s first birthday.

It is important to establish a comprehensive and accessible ongoing relationship between the dentist and patient. This is because early oral examination aids in the detection of the early stages of tooth decay. Early detection is essential to maintain oral health, modify aberrant habits, and treat as needed and as simply as possible. Additionally, parents are given a program of preventative home care (brushing/flossing/fluorides), a caries risk assessment, information on finger, thumb, and pacifier habits, advice on preventing injuries to the mouth and teeth of children, diet counseling, and information on growth and development.

Costmetic Dentistry

There are many reasons why adult teeth may need restorative treatment, some of the most common reasons include decay, fractured or damaged teeth, failing restorations or simple the patient’s desire to improve the aesthetics of their smile. It is always important to remember that with the exception of cosmetic dental treatment, a tooth may need dental treatment before you feel any discomfort or pain.

At the Dental Office Of Palm Harbor, we offer a wide array of restorative and cosmetic services, including:

Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatment involves correcting malocclusion, which is the misalignment of the bite or incorrect spacing between teeth. This is usually accomplished through the use of Orthodontic braces or clear aligners such as Invisalign.

Straighter teeth give you more than a great smile—they also help to reduce your risk for tooth decay and gum disease. If left untreated by a dentist, tooth decay and gum disease can cause mouth sores, tender or bleeding gums, bad breath and possible tooth loss. Orthodontic treatment with Invisalign can assist with straight teeth, helping you to avoid problems such as an improper bite, difficulty speaking or chewing, and jaw problems.

With orthodontic treatment, you can improve the health of your teeth and start to smile with confidence. The cost of orthodontics can vary depending on the materials used, the treatment plan, and even location. Get more information by scheduling your complimentary Invisalign consultation today!

Periodontal Health

Optimal dental health begins with a strong foundation. Just like the strong foundation of a house, the foundation of your teeth plays a big role on your oral health and the quality of the restorative service we can provide to you.

The foundation of teeth is made up of the bone and gum tissues that support them. An oral hygiene regimen should be a combination of professional care and guidance provided by us and proper care at home by you.

Doing your part at home to maintain your teeth clean and healthy makes the few visits to our office that much more enjoyable. For most patients that have good periodontal health, professional dental cleanings are needed anywhere from two to r four times a year depending on the amount of plaque and tartar that they accumulate.

If you have been told you have periodontal (gum) disease, you’re not alone. An estimated 80 percent of American adults currently have some form of the disease. Periodontal disease can result in major damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth, and in severe cases can cause the loss of teeth. New research has also found a link between periodontal diseases and other chronic conditions such as heart disease, inflammation and alzheimers.

Whether the disease process is stopped, slowed, or gets worse depends on how well you care for your teeth and gums every day, and your compliance with your periodic professional cleanings.

Oral Surgery

Oral surgery specializes in treating many diseases, injuries and defects in the hard and soft tissues of the mouth and maxillofacial region.

At our office we perform routine surgical procedure and emergencies. Dr. Garcia prefers to save teeth and will try all possible avenues to do so although there times where it is not possible. This can happen if the tooth has extensive decay or is broken and there is not enough tooth structure to hold a restoration. The doctor will evaluate the condition of the tooth or area that needs treatment. At this time, she will advise the patient of the most effective treatment options. For more advanced cases, she will refer to a specialist. Our office collaborates with a wide range of specialist that will assist with each patient’s dental need.
